The Mighty Rocks We Carry

Mirrored memory
reflecting river washing
a current is building
around these boulders
loosening the stones
held tight in deep crevices
so gripped by fear
from washing away

I lost you
in the rapids
you called me as
I floated by
I left you dry
capsized in emotional waters
no soothing shore to reach
no hidden inlets shared
outgoing tide
returning us to
ourselves and
these mighty rocks
we carry
